What to do if Your Driver’s License in Florida Has Been Suspended or Revoked

If you’re a resident of Florida and your driver’s license has been suspended or revoked, you know how difficult it can be to navigate the reinstatement process. At our law firm, we understand the importance of having a valid driver’s license and are here to help guide you through the process of getting yours reinstated.
The first step in getting your license reinstated in Florida is to understand the reason for the suspension or revocation. Common reasons include:

  • DUI/DWI convictions
  • Accumulation of too many traffic violations
  • Failure to pay traffic fines or appear in court
  • Operating a vehicle without insurance

Fulfill Requirements From the DMV

Once you understand the reason for the suspension, you will need to fulfill any requirements set by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV). This may include:

  • Completing a driver’s education course
  • Paying outstanding fines
  • Installing an ignition interlock device in your vehicle
  • Completing a substance abuse course, if the suspension was related to a DUI conviction

If it’s a DUI Conviction in Florida

It’s important to note that if your license was suspended due to a DUI conviction, you will be required to hold a hardship license for a certain period before being eligible for reinstatement. A hardship license allows you to drive to certain places, such as work or school, during the suspension period.

After fulfilling the requirements, you will need to submit an application for reinstatement and pay any required fees. Make sure that all of the information on the application is accurate and complete to avoid delays in the process.

If your license was suspended or revoked due to a DUI conviction, you may also be required to file SR-22 form with the DHSMV, which is a certificate of financial responsibility. It is important to file the SR-22 form on time, as it is a requirement for reinstating your license.

It’s worth noting that the reinstatement process can take time, so it’s important to be patient. However, if you feel that your license was suspended or revoked unjustly, we can help you appeal the decision.
